What can you use the app for?

Helium provides users with a wealth of knowledge. The website serves two purposes. It is an online community for writers and it is intended for use as an informational directory for user created articles. Writers can put together articles and submit them to one of the 24 channels available on Helium. These include a diverse collection of topics ranging from arts and humanity to computers, health, creative writing, science, relationships, lifestyle, travel, religion, politics, news, pets, law and local guides. Readers can vote on the articles they like, allowing those articles to essentially ‘rise’ to the top. A search tool is also presented to visitors who would like to find a specific topic. The articles are presented much like Ezine Articles, with a link to the author at the bottom along with sharing tools and links to similar articles.

What is the history and popularity of the app?

Helium is based out of Andover, Massachusetts. The current team includes President and CEO Mark Ranalli, Vice President of Content and Community Janice Brand, Vice President of Operations John Rozen, Vice President of Strategic Services Brian Van Konynenburg and Vice President of Development Tracy Flynn. The site currently offers writers many opportunities for writers, including user voted writing contests and publisher writing assignment bounties.

What are the differences to other apps?

Helium provides something that almost anyone can use. The application provides a diverse collection of topics that include numerous articles. This gives the average internet user a number of resources when gathering information or learning about a subject. Writers, on the other hand, can use Helium to help boost their exposure and portfolio. They might even earn some cash in the process. Helium provides a unique combination of opportunities for writers and resources for everyone else.

How does the web app look and feel to use?

The Helium website has a very stylish, professional design that features a white background and dark red color scheme. The sleek logo features narrow text and three dots over the “I” that create an appealing, modern look that seems mirrored throughout the website. The article pages feature the content with tabs to toggle between top articles and all articles. The site also contains advertisements, but these are generally kept to the right and left of the content.

How does the registration process work?

A new user can join the Helium community by clicking the white “Join” link in the upper, right hand corner (inside the red header). The registration form appears along the right hand side of the following page. The form asks for a username, password, email address, first and last name, mailing address, city, country, state, zip code and security question answer. A phone number field is available but optional. The user must also successfully enter the code at the bottom of the page and check the terms of service agreement as well as an age confirmation.

What does it cost to use the application?

Helium welcomes all visitors to the website for free. There is no fee for creating an account and the user does not have to make any purchases to maintain their account. Visitors can even search through the article data base without logging in. Writers are also invited to sign up for free. This is overall an excellent choice to encourage more people to become active members of the Helium community.

Who would you recommend the application to?

Helium.com provides users with a large collection of knowledge to learn or gather information. The site also caters to writers who want to expand their portfolios and practice their skills. Overall the site is a great informational resource for just about anyone.
